Media Turkey Race Contestants

Shown above are members of the media who participated in the Median Turkey Race this past Thursday night at the Turkey Trot in Montgomery. Pictured above from left to right is Conan Shake son of Dewayne Shake who was representing WAMW Radio, Crystal Mills from WITZ Radio in Jasper, Adam Miller representing the Montgomery Ruritan Club, John Dosch WWBL and Lindsey Owens from the Washington Times Herald. Adam Miller who was in the center of this picture was the winner of the Media Race and this was his first try in the Media Race. It is interesting to note that in 1988 He was the winner jockey as a youngster but this is his first victory as an adult. Congratulations to Adam Miller. Turkey Race Champion

Pictured above is Champion Turkey Racer Aaron Tinkle as he is presented the Championship trophy by Ruritan President Tim Showalter after the Championship race on Sunday at the Montgomery Turkey Trot. Tinkle who started at Post 4 in the race just edged out Austin Knepp at the finish line for the Championship trophy. Aaron is the son of Kevin and Liz Tinkle of Montgomery and is a fourth grader at Barr-Reeve. This is the third year in a row for Aaron to be the Champion Turkey Racer. Instructions to the Jockeys

Shown above is Albert Kavanaugh as he gives instructions to the Jockeys just prior to the start of the first race on Thursday night.  Albert stepped in to take his brother Lee's place who took care of the Turkeys and was the starter for many years of  the Turkey Races but died suddenly this pass June 19 and the younger brother Albert took off his duties as the starter.  Just prior to events at the Turkey Trot the announcer recalled the contributions made by Lee Kavanaugh to the Club and acknowledged his accomplishments. 2013 Service Award Winners

Pictured above are the 2013 Service Award winners for the Montgomery Ruritan Club Dave Kavanaugh (left) and Leo Barley Sr. (right) after the Presentation at the Montgomery Turkey Trot this past Saturday night.  The presentation was made on the main stage Saturday night just prior to the John Michael Montgomery Show.  The presenation was made by  Turkey Trot Chairman Dewayne Shake (center). Bar Reeve Choral Group

Demo Winners

Picture above are the Turkey Trot Demo Winners from Sunday Afternoon. Pictured above is (L-R) Tim Showalter Demo Official, First Place Winner Tony James, Second Place Travor Jones and Leo Barley Jr. Demo Official. Photo Finish

There was another photo finish at the Turkey Trot this year as Aaron Tinkle (right) just beat Austin Knepp (left) by two tenths second to claim his third Championship in a row. Tinkle finished with a time of 23.8 seconds to Austin Knepp's 24.00. Tinkle claimed the top prize of $100 plus a large trophy and bragging rights while Knepp took second price of $50. Horse Pulling Winner

10-15 Yr. Old Pig Wrestling Winners

Shown above is the winning team in the 10-15 year old Division. Pictured above is Gordan Burris on the right and Gregory Roach on left. The name of their team was the Wild Hogs and both are from Vincennes. The winning team had a time of 6.3 seconds. There were 13 teams in the 10-15 year old division. Picture by Louis Kavanaugh Jr.

6-10 Yr. Old Pig Wrestling Winners

Shown Above are the winners of the 6-10 year old division of the pig wrestling at the Turkey Trot on Sunday. Pictured above is (L-R) Chloe Graber, Lynlee Schuetz, Maggie Miller and Amya Stoll. The winning time was 6.2 seconds and there were 30 teams in that division. Turkey Trot Contestant

Shown above is a turkey racer Gabriel Kavanaugh wearing the number 5 just prior to his race on Friday night. Knelling beside Gabe is his Dad John Kavanaugh and behind is one of the timers Mike Kavanaugh who took time out to smile for the camera. Although Gabriel did not advance, he had a good time and is ready to try it again next year. There were 70 racers that raced turkeys on Thursday and Friday night and the 25 fastest were picked to be in the Semi-Finals on Saturday. There is no charge to enter. Picture by Amy Kavanaugh.

Our Largest Crowd, Ever!

Shown above is just part of the Crowd that turned out for the John Michael Montgomery Shown on Saturday Night at the Turkey Trot Grounds in Montgomery. This picture was taken nearly an hour before the show started and as you can see many people had their seats in place and there were already a large crowd sitting waiting for the show to begin. The show was delayed in starting as people walked from in town to get there. Traffic was shut off and the last to arrive had to park in town. The Crowd was the largest ever for the Turkey Trot as the Parking Lots were full and people parked in down town Montgomery all the way to Barr-Reeve High School. The Town was busting at the seams on Saturday night as it may have been the biggest event in the history of the town of Montgomery. Estimates and gate receipts showed attendance could be between five to six thousand people or more in attendance for the Show on Saturday night. Picture by Louis Kavanaugh Jr.

 

Tractor Pull Winner

Shown above is Dennis Walton as he pulls in the 1200 lb Class (12 MPH) on Thursday night at the Montgomery Turkey Trot. Walton was the winner of that Class as he drive his 9700 Ford Tractor down the track. Cornhole Competition
